What is mathematics? what is mathematics all about? why do we study mathematics?
I'm sure this is not your first time into mathematics, is it? Good! In one way or the other, you have done some calculations, simple everyday arithmetic. For instance, you can spontaneously calculate your date of birth; you can calculate today's date without a calendar if only you remember what date is it yesterday or any previous day. An illiterate mother can number her children by herself. We cannot deny mathematics, even though i did not mention many everyday examples of transactions involving money, goods etc.
I can simply put: Mathematics is LIFE! However because of the academic people, let us define it as the study of numbers/values, and how they are operated one on another to give another, thus extracting a meaningful deduction and with the end result of solving a specific problem(s). It's all about numbers in mathematics. Bring a number and a number together because a problem must be solved, and what solved our problem is another number or a set of numbers either known or unknown, and sometimes what we think should end is only a gate into another world of problems; in whichever case, a logical conclusion can be drawn from this result. We can again call Mathematics as the process of solving problems with numbers. Sometimes, the method in maths require that we hide certain values, that we may properly draw out certain necessary conclusions and to obtain a generic formula for other instances. Maths deal with problems in a variety of ways, and this has made it such an interesting subject. It seems to be one of the uncommon ways man has to resolve his basic life problems; and that is the beauty of it and the pride of the mathematician.
